Lim Kuan is a practising lawyer and was admitted to the Malaysian Bar since 2016.

Prior to becoming a Partner in Ming & Partners, Lim Kuan was a Senior Associate in Chooi & Company + Cheang & Ariff (‘CCA’), a Tier 1 Legal 500 law firm in Malaysia.

Lim Kuan accepts instructions on corporate litigation, intellectual property (‘IP’) and technology disputes, commercial disputes as well as general litigation. Besides dealing with dispute resolutions, he is also experienced in handling IP registrations for trademarks, copyrights, and patents.

Lim Kuan also advises his clients on various IP and technology agreements involving cryptocurrency and NFTs, commercial agreements involving franchises, licensing, investments and employment matters.

He had been invited as a speaker to speak on subject matters of his practice areas.

  1. Acted for an international apparel company based in Hong Kong in defending and counterclaiming against its Malaysian supplier involving defective goods sold for a total dispute sum more than RM5 million.

  2. Acted for a pharmaceutical company in defending and counterclaiming against its contractor involving fraudulent claims for RM1.6 million.

  3. Acted for a property developer in defending and counterclaiming against its sub-contractor via arbitration involving piling works for a high-rise residential building for a total dispute sum in excess of RM15 million.

  4. Acted for a company’s shareholder in obtaining a validation order from Court for the sum of RM4.5 million where a winding up petition of the said company had been presented.

  5. Acted for a local durian manufacturer in defending claims of trademark infringement, passing off and copyright infringement by another manufacturer and counterclaimed for unlawful interference of trade.

  6. Acted for a well-known Malaysian departmental store in defending against its customer’s claims of tort of false imprisonment and counterclaimed for tort of conversion.

  7. Acted for Malaysia’s largest bubble tea operator in defending an injunction against its Taiwanese foreign franchisor.

  8. Acted for a listed company specializing in IT in claiming for copyright infringement, breach of confidential information, breach of fidelity and good faith against their ex-employees.

  9. Acted for a listed company specializing in technology solutions in applying for capital reduction.

  10. Acted for a local company in managing its global trademark portfolios in 10 countries, including Japan, Philippines, Thailand and others.

  11. Acted for a local leading e-wallet company in managing its trademark portfolios in 7 classes in Malaysia.
